Special Education

Detroit Innovation Academy provides a variety of special education programs for students identified as having a disability defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

 A student can access special education services through the proper evaluation and placement procedure. Parent involvement in this procedure is required. More importantly, the school wants the parent to be an active participant.

DIA is pleased to partner with Helping Hands and the Detroit Institute of Children in service of our diverse learners.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT - SECTION 504

The American's with Disabilities Act (A.D.A.) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act provide that no individual will be discriminated against on the basis of a disability. This protection applies not just to the student, but also to all individuals who have access to the District’s programs and facilities. Students with disabilities and Limited English Proficient students may be served within the regular education program with an accommodation plan developed by school staff. Parents who believe their child may have a disability that substantially limits the child's ability to function properly in school, should contact the district’s Special Services Department.
